Vincent Comparato; Sears Service Technician

Vincent “Jim” Comparato, a retired Sears, Roebuck & Co. service technician, died Monday. He was 74.

Comparato was born July 11, 1925, in New York City and attended school there.

During World War II, he served in the Army.

He married his childhood sweetheart, Evelyn Escoda, on Jan. 3, 1945.

When they moved to California in 1962, Comparato became a service technician at Sears in the San Fernando Valley.

Comparato and his wife moved to Ventura in 1980 and two years later moved into the Rancho Ventura apartment complex on Johnson Drive.

In 1989 he retired from Sears, and they traveled throughout the country in their RV.

His daughter June Comparato said they went everywhere together. Trips included the Grand Tetons, New Orleans, balloon festivals and the World Expo in Canada.

In addition to his wife and daughter June, he is survived by another daughter, Cory Abele of Ventura; a brother, Tony of New York; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.

Mass is scheduled at 2 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ventura with Msgr. Arnold Biedermann officiating.

Burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
