And Hits Keep Coming for Those Dodgers

Share

Carlos Perez has an ERA of 6.88, among the worst in the majors. He gave up four runs in six innings against the Pirates last Sunday, a game the Dodgers lost, 6-5. Manager Davey Johnson said after the game, “Perez pitched all right. He made some mistakes, but he should have had a bigger lead.”

Sorry, boys, I think we need a new leader. Could someone please call Kevin Kennedy?

It’s time for Kevin Malone and Davey Johnson to apologize to Charlie Hough. Hough was fired as the Dodgers’ pitching coach after the team’s 44th game in late May. Malone/Johnson claimed that the 30-year baseball veteran had failed to properly prepare his pitchers for their starts. At the time the Dodgers were 22-22. After last night’s game, the Dodgers were 40-48. Perhaps Malone/Johnson have learned that there’s more to being a pitching coach than reciting mind-numbing statistics about potential matchups.

Perhaps Fox should rethink their recent endorsement of the Malone/Johnson management team. Perhaps Charlie should thank the Dodgers for allowing him to work elsewhere.

Kevin Brown is not performing well this season because the Dodgers are not paying him enough money, plain and simple. The Dodgers should demand that Brown’s agent, Scott Boras, reopen the bidding process against themselves so they can add more perks and money to his contract.
