The city will join a countywide program that standardizes training and safety procedures for taxicabs, now that the City Council has approved an ordinance that conforms to the program’s requirements. Only two other cities in the county have yet to join the Orange County Taxi Administration Program, which standardizes drug testing and criminal record checks for drivers as well as vehicle inspections and licensing requirements. The City Council also adopted OCTAP’s fee schedule of $1.90 for the first sixth of a mile and 30 cents for each additional sixth, with a waiting fee no higher than $22 per hour.
