Bella Chiarra Rallies to Victory
Bella Chiarra, a 4-year-old daughter of Phone Trick, held off West Side to win Wednesday’s $56,028 feature race for fillies and mares at Hollywood Park.
Ridden by David Flores, Bella Chiarra overtook pacesetter Good Lady Luck in the turn for home then finished half a length in front of West Side. Spanish Fern came on to take third, an additional 2 1/4 lengths back, in the 1 1/16th-mile turf race.
Bella Chiarra is trained by Michael Whittingham.
Bella Chiarra was clocked in 1:42 and paid $8, $3.40 and $2.80. West Side, ridden by Chris McCarron, paid $3.40 and $2.60, and Spanish Fern, with Alex Solis up, paid $3.20.
Each of the first three finishers carried 116 pounds.
Good Lady Luck finished fourth in the six-horse field.
The victory was Bella Chiarra’s fourth in 14 starts.
