Two Hidden Hills Road neighbors are suing each other, the property developers and the city for 1988 landslide damages. Jack and Martha Raichart’s suit alleges that leaks from Ron and Dianna Muranaka’s sprinkler system added to landslide activity, said David Epstein, the couple’s attorney. The Raicharts have also named the developers, Pacific Scene, Epstein said. On May 24, the couple filed a multimillion-dollar claim against the city, which the City Council denied this week. The claim alleges that the city failed to maintain the sewers and enforce building codes, contributing to the landslide damages.

The Muranakas, the Raicharts next-door neighbors, filed a lawsuit in November against the couple and the developer, alleging that property damages are, in part, a result of the Raicharts drilling into the soil and pouring reinforced concrete into the holes. That suit is now being amended and will also name the city as a defendant. The Muranakas also claim the cracking in their home and on their land is due to bad judgment and poor maintenance by the city and the developers.

The city is in the process of filing its own lawsuit against the developer for damages to the street across the road from the Raicharts and the Muranakas.
