Frederick E. Llewellyn; CEO of Forest Lawn

Frederick E. Llewellyn, 82, retired chief executive officer of Forest Lawn Memorial-Parks and Mortuaries. Born in Mexico, Mo., Llewellyn grew up in Glendale and received a bachelor’s degree from Caltech. He went on to earn an MBA at the Harvard Graduate School of Business. Llewellyn began working at Forest Lawn in 1938 and remained active in the firm’s day-to-day operations for more than 50 years. He succeeded Forest Lawn’s founder, Hubert Eaton, as general manager, president and chief executive officer overseeing the operations of five memorial park locations in Southern California. A leader in the funeral industry, Llewellyn was named to the International Cemetery and Funeral Assn.’s Hall of Fame in Reston, Va. Llewellyn was also active in community organizations and served as chairman of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, as a regent for Pepperdine University, as chairman of the California Museum of Science and Industry and as a member of the board of the Los Angeles County Heart Assn. Funeral services are scheduled for today at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Recessional at Forest Lawn, Glendale. On Tuesday in Los Angeles.
