Heart Assn. Affiliate Names New Treasurer

* Cindy Keitel of Camarillo has been appointed treasurer of the American Heart Assn.’s Western States Affiliate for the 1999-2000 fiscal year. The affiliate represents 35 million residents in California, Nevada and Utah.

Keitel, director of wellness for the Woodland Hills-based Health Net health plan, served on the board of directors of the American Heart Assn.’s Greater Los Angeles Affiliate for the 1997-1998 year. She was involved with the San Fernando Valley heart association branch in various capacities from 1991 to 1997.

Retired Simi Valley Educator Recognized

* Simi Valley resident Sharon Lawlor Romano has been honored with Iowa State University’s College of Family and Consumer Sciences Career Award for her 30 years as an educator in the field.

Romano, a 1958 Iowa State graduate with a degree in home economics education, retired from the Los Angeles Unified School District in 1991. She taught family and consumer sciences and served as an assistant principal and as an advisor for the Adopt-a-School program and the Student-to-Student program.

Cal Lutheran Professor to Head Consortium

* Herbert E. Gooch III, an associate professor at Cal Lutheran University, has been elected president of the Lutheran Colleges Washington Consortium. The consortium of Lutheran colleges, including Cal Lutheran, provides students with an opportunity to work and study in Washington, D.C., for a semester.
