Serrano Intermediate School will be one of four district intermediate schools to receive funding to improve science classrooms. Principal Skip Roland said two classrooms will be converted into science labs, complete with computer cabinets, display cases, sinks and outlets for microscopes. The school will have as many as 10 working science rooms, half of which will be equipped with Bunsen burners, Roland said. The school board voted earlier this year to require three trimesters of science for all seventh- and eighth-grade students. Roland said new district requirements made the additions at his school and the other intermediate schools necessary. Serrano also will hire two new science teachers.
