A man accused in a supermarket killing rampage will also face several counts of sexual assault for an alleged attack on an escort service worker just an hour before the deadly rampage.

Zane Michael Floyd, 23, was to be arraigned Monday on four counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. However, Clark County Deputy Dist. Atty. Bill Koot asked that the arraignment be delayed until Wednesday for the filing of additional charges.

Koot said several charges of sexual assault will be filed against Floyd, and that he may face additional charges of attempted murder “because of people who say he fired at them but missed.”

Twenty-five people, including 14 employees, were in the Albertson’s supermarket when the shooting began shortly after 5 a.m. Thursday. Floyd allegedly gunned down some victims as he came upon them and chased others down.

Authorities are still trying to determine the motive for the slayings. Homicide Sgt. Kevin Manning said police were checking rumors that Floyd carried a grudge against a store employee.

Koot said it was fate that the 20-year-old employee of the Love Bound escort service was not also killed by her assailant.

“For some unexplained reason, he let her go rather than killing her,” Koot said. “He threatened to kill her, and he was going to kill her, but then he let her go.”

A Love Bound employee said the young woman was told by her assailant that he had 19 rounds of ammunition and planned to kill the first 19 people he saw.

Floyd, with a goatee and a shaved head, showed no emotion Monday as Koot discussed the case with Justice of the Peace James M. Bixler. The suspect was shackled and his hands were bound in tight mitts that restricted movement. A public defender was appointed to represent him.

Floyd was arrested early Thursday after he allegedly charged into the Albertson’s store two miles west of the Strip and opened fire with a pump-action shotgun.

A former Marine at Camp Pendleton, Floyd had been working as a security guard and a bouncer at a Las Vegas club.
