Capt. Thomas R. Bernitt, commanding officer of the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station, is planning to retire in August, following a 26-year military career. Bernitt has been commander in Seal Beach for a year. Previously, he was in command of an explosive ordnance disposal unit in San Diego. The Seal Beach station is the busiest weapons handling base on the West Coast and oversees three other detachments. Succeeding Bernitt will be Capt. Paul N. Bruno, officer-in-charge of Seal Beach’s detachment in Concord, Calif. The change of command ceremony will be held Aug. 26.
