Man in Internet Sex Case Given 3 Years’ Probation
Aidin Ghaffari, the 22-year-old man found guilty of sending “harmful matter” to a minor over the Internet, was sentenced this week to three years’ probation after a judge gave him credit for the 77 days he has already served in jail, his lawyer said.
Judge Judith Abrams of West Los Angeles Superior Court also ordered psychological counseling for Ghaffari, said his lawyer, James E. Blatt.
Ghaffari, of Woodland Hills, met someone who claimed to be a 13-year-old girl in an Internet chat room last year. He asked her for sex. At the spot where they were to meet, he was arrested. The cyber girl turned out to be a real-life man--an undercover FBI agent searching for adults who sexually prey on children.
Another charge against Ghaffari, attempting a lewd act, was dismissed Thursday, Blatt said. Jurors had deadlocked on that issue. Blatt said he will appeal the jury’s verdict.
