United Way Campaign Raises $62 Million

United Way of Greater Los Angeles raised $62 million during the past year, a 5% increase over the previous year, the organization announced Tuesday.

Almost 80% of the total was raised from local companies, employees and organized labor.

About 20% was raised from individual donors who commit $1,000 or more to United Way.

Bank of America, Southern California, was the single largest corporate contributor, with a donation total of $2.6 million. Federal employees in Los Angeles County earned top honors in the public sector of the United Way campaign, raising a total of $3.8 million.

During the last year, United Way supported services for about 4 million local residents, including: 2 million meals served, after-school programs for about 600,000 youths and health care visits for about 600,000 uninsured people.
