The City Council may repeal the controversial Traffic Phasing Ordinance if council members fail to reach a consensus soon. The chief concern is whether the ordinance protects the city from potential lawsuits, Mayor Dennis O’Neil said. “My major concern is that the attorneys, most importantly our own, are telling us that the ordinance is fatally flawed and subject to legal attack,” he said.

While O’Neil said he would seriously consider a total repeal, Councilman John Noyes scoffed at the idea: “I don’t see where I would vote to repeal it. It’s just a difficult issue and a very technical one.”

If the ordinance is repealed, O’Neil said other laws that accomplish the same thing can be applied.
