Smoke Forces Evacuation of Convalescent Home
EL MONTE —
About 50 ventilator-dependent patients were evacuated from an El Monte convalescent home Friday after a car ran into a generator, cutting power to the facility and causing it to fill with smoke, authorities said.
The accident happened about 7:10 p.m. at Sunset Manor Convalescent Hospital on Nevada Avenue, a Los Angeles County fire dispatcher said.
County paramedics and 10 ambulance crews were called to evacuate residents.
