Local Students Honored for Traffic Posters

* Three area students won merit citations in AAA’s 55th National School Traffic Safety Poster Program. Fifty-three students from Southern California received special recognition.

Nahid Yakuby, an eighth-grader at Anacapa Middle School in Ventura, was honored for her “When a Bus Is There, Beware” poster. Two students at Los Primeros Structured School in Camarillo were also honored: seventh-grader Andriya Kruchowy for “Let’s Make a Pact, Sit In the Back,” and eighth-grader Travis Womer for “Heads Up, Helmet On.”

Venturan Selected as Melvin Jones Fellow

* Jeff Roundy of Ventura was named a Melvin Jones Fellow by Lions Clubs International Foundation in “recognition of his commitment to serving the world community.” Roundy is a member of the Ventura Beach Lions Club. The fellowship is named for the founder of Lions Club International and is the foundation’s highest honor.
