About 1,200 guests and celebrities gathered at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on May 21 and 22 to raise money for multiple sclerosis research. The sixth annual Rock to Erase MS raised about $3 million. Hosted by the hotel, Tommy Hilfiger and VH1, the weekend of events kicked off with a Hilfiger rock ‘n’ roll fashion show featuring models and celebrities such as Michael Bergin, Portia DeRossi, Harry Hamlin, Lisa Rinna, Kidada Jones, Charlie O’Connell, Jerry O’Connell, Kelly Rutherford, Kimberly Stewart, Natasha Gregson Wagner, China Chow and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos. The Goo Goo Dolls performed during and after the show. May 22 included a 5K run-walk hosted by Romijn-Stamos and LL Cool J. Ed McMahon and Coolio emceed. The weekend concluded with a silent auction, dinner and a concert with Hootie & the Blowfish, Cheap Trick and Wyclef Jean as well as a stand-up performance by David Spade and a special tribute to Phil Hartman by Jon Lovitz. The event chairpersons were Nancy Davis, Hilfiger and VH1 President John Sykes. Davis, who has MS, is dedicated to raising money to find a cure.

* More than 600 business, medical and community leaders attended California Hospital Medical Center’s 14th annual Los Angeles Humanitarian Award Luncheon on May 18 to recognize Jackie Autry’s, Joanne Hale’s and Dr. Peter Meade’s contributions to the quality of life in Los Angeles. Mayor Richard Riordan welcomed the guests, who included Dist. Atty. Gil Garcetti. The luncheon, held at the Regal Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, raised more than $125,000 to support Women’s and Children’s Services at the medical center. Meade is director of the surgical intensive care unit at King/Drew Medical Center and has worked with Doctors Without Borders. Autry and Hale helped develop and build the Autry Museum of Western Heritage in Griffith Park in honor of late Western folk hero and movie star Gene Autry.
