Share

The Los Angeles chapter of the National Assn. of Women Business Owners will kick off a new welfare-to-work initiative at its annual board installation tonight. The group will urge businesses searching for employees in the current tight job market to consider hiring people on welfare, Executive Director Sonya Levy Wayne said.

“There is room for more small-business owners to get involved in this effort,” Wayne said. “It’s going to be a real priority for our organization this year.”

Eileen Kelly, chief of Greater Avenues for Independence, or GAIN, Los Angeles County’s principal welfare-to-work program, will be the keynote speaker. NAWBO-LA will also install its new executive board, including President Patricia Johnson, owner of Beverly Hills-based Health Point Services of America.
