Orange Unified trustees may soon announce their choice for superintendent of the 30,000-student district. The board met in closed session Monday to consider qualifications of the two finalists to succeed Robert L. French, who is retiring June 30 after four years in the position. One of the first challenges facing the new superintendent will be resolution of an impasse in teacher contract negotiations. Earlier this month, the teachers union narrowly defeated the district’s latest two-year proposal, citing a reduction in health benefits.
