The future development of 4,762 acres outside the northern city limits in an unincorporated part of the county will be discussed at a July 15 community meeting. Brea has no direct control over development projects outside city limits, although officials can make recommendations to the county. In 1992, residents and city officials created a plan to try to preserve the hillside. Developers have long been eyeing the site for housing and other projects, city officials said.

The development plan includes a detailed outline of what the city would like to see happen with the property, now dotted with trees and scattered oil fields. Residents are encouraged to evaluate whether the guidelines from 1992 were met and to submit new ideas at the meeting, 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. at the Community Center, 695 E. Madison Way. There will be free child care for youngsters older than 18 months, and the center’s teen zone will be open for youths in grades 7 through 12. To reserve a seat, call (714) 990-7202 or e-mail to future--brea@ci.brea.ca.us by July 12.
