Dimarzo Gains Ground With NASCAR Super Late Model Win

Share

A.J. Dimarzo’s victory in the NASCAR Super Late Model race Saturday night at Irwindale Speedway moved him within 38 points of series leader Rod Johnson. Johnson, who finished third, leads Dimarzo, 476-438.

Dimarzo had to hold off Arleta’s Brian Kelley in the closing laps. Kelley had started eighth and on lap 27 passed Dennis Arena in turn four. He did the same thing to Johnson on lap 29. He tried to do it to Dimarzo on the final lap but came up half a car length short.

Also on Saturday, T.K. Karvasek took the lead from Jeff Green on the fifth lap and pulled away to win the 25-lap NASCAR Super Stock race.

Karvasek, of North Hills, was disqualified, however, after his car failed a post-race inspection. It was his second consecutive disqualification. Both times the beneficiary has been Doug McComb of Thousand Oaks.

The disqualifications have dropped Karvasek to fourth in the standings. McComb is second, trailing Mike Price, 444-376.
