Pasadena Schools Gain in Stanford 9 Testing

Share

Although standardized test scores for the Pasadena Unified School District were primarily in the below-average range for the second year, there were gains across most grades and subject areas.

The majority of reading scores on the Stanford 9 went up by 3 to 8 percentage points for the 17,745 students tested in grades 2 through 11. Greater improvements were made in math, which saw up to an 11-point percentage change from last year.

This year’s reading scores ranked mostly in the 30th and 40th percentile ranges for the second through eighth grades, while high school students scored just under the 30th percentile. Lower scores for high school reading than elementary and middle school is consistent with results in other districts. Scores at the 50th percentiles are the national norms.

Among the core subjects of reading, math, language and spelling, the highest score came in third-grade math, with a 53rd percentile ranking. Eighth-grade spelling turned in the lowest score, with a 25th percentile ranking.

Scores for the statewide test, administered this spring, have been arriving at districts in the last few weeks. All results are expected to be posted by June 30 on the California Department of Education Web site: https://www.cde.ca.gov
