White House Denies a Presidential Senate Bid

WASHINGTON — The White House on Monday denied a New Yorker story that said friends in Arkansas were encouraging President Clinton to seek a Senate seat from that state after he leaves office. “He has no intention of running for the Senate [and] rules out the idea of running for the Senate,” spokesman Joe Lockhart said. “I think his quote to me was, ‘That story is crazy and I don’t know where they got it from.’ ”
