AT SAN DIEGO

* Schedule: 7 tonight; 7:30 p.m. Wednesday; 2 p.m. Thursday.

* Television: Channel 5 Tuesday, Fox Sports West 2, Wednesday and Thursday.

* Radio: XTRA (1150), KWKW (1330), all three games.

* Pitching matchups: Ismael Valdes (5-7, 3.71 ERA) vs. Andy Ashby (7-4, 3.49) tonight; Kevin Brown (9-4, 2.89) vs. Brian Boehringer (4-1, 2.77) Wednesday; Darren Dreifort (6-6, 5.67) vs. Matt Clement (4-7. 4.76) Thursday.

* Last series: The Padres’ pitching was too good, or the Dodgers’ hitting too pathetic, in San Diego’s three-game sweep at Dodger Stadium last week. In the first game Sterling Hitchcock outmatched Chan Ho Park in a 4-1 victory. In the second game, it was Woody Williams’ turn to shut down the Dodgers, giving up five hits and two runs in eight innings in San Diego’s 6-2 victory. In the finale, Andy Ashby gave up only four hits and one run in six innings in the Padres’ 2-1 victory.

* About the Padres: The Padres have won 10 in a row, eight of them without Tony Gwynn, who is on the 15-day disabled list. The Padres can tie their club record for longest winning streak by beating the Dodgers tonight.

FRIDAY-SUNDAY

VS. SAN FRANCISCO

* Schedule: 7 p.m. Friday; 1 p.m. Saturday; 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

* Television: Channel 5 Friday; Channel 11 Saturday.

* Radio: XTRA (1150), KWKW (1330), all three games.

* Last series: The Dodgers took two of three from the Giants, but still fell into last place in the N.L. West with Sunday’s loss. In the opener, Kevin Brown continued to be the Dodgers’ bright spot this season, pitching the team to a 4-2 win. Todd Hundley blasted a three-run home run--his second home run of the game--off Giant closer Robb Nen in the ninth inning to give the Dodgers a 7-6 victory Saturday. On Sunday, the Giants jumped on Chan Ho Park early, knocking him out in the fourth inning, and the Giants went on to win 8-7.

* About the Giants: The Giants are only two games out of first place. Barry Bonds has struggled since returning from arm surgery, but the Giants keep getting production from nearly everyone in the lineup. The Giants are also helped by the return of outfielder Ellis Burks from the disabled list. Burks homered on Saturday and Sunday.
