Ventura resident Barry Wayne Wilding died in a local hospital Friday, after a brief illness. He was 51.

Wilding was born Sept. 23, 1947, in Winnipeg, Canada. His family moved to Ventura County in 1959.

Wilding attended grade school in Ventura and graduated from Buena High School in 1966. He was a third-generation plumber and, along with his wife, owned and operated Da-Nite Plumbing Co. in Ventura.

Wilding enjoyed auto racing and owned a modified race car that he raced at the Ventura Raceway.

He was preceded in death by his son, Scott, and his mother, Dorothy, both of whom died in 1996.

In addition to his wife, Connie Wilding of Ventura, he is survived by his father, Wayne, of Las Vegas; three daughters, Shannon Wilding of Phoenix, Heather Wilding of Ventura and Debbie Cochran of Garden Grove; three sisters, Barbara Wilding of Surprise, Ariz., Brenda Bowington of Phoenix and Analise Osborne of Peoria, Ariz.; and two grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service at 1 p.m. today at Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura. Wilding will be buried next to his son at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in a private ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity in Wilding’s name.
