The City Council tonight is expected to deny a $202-million claim served recently against the Police Department by 15 families in the Atwood area. Richard Keller, an attorney for the families, alleges police committed multiple violations of civil liberties and constitutional rights during a Jan. 6 execution of search warrants.

Police from 18 departments raided 21 homes--17 in Atwood--to round up suspects in the New Year’s Eve slaying of an Anaheim woman. Judah Seelke was shot in the head after violence erupted at a party. Keller said that more than a dozen police agencies searched homes using excessive force and negligence, and that some officers put guns to children’s heads.

Matt Reynolds, a Police Department spokesman, maintains the department’s officers acted legally in the service of 18 search warrants, which resulted in seven arrests.
