The City Council last week took emergency action to spend $7,100 for repairs to sewer pipes that serve homeowners on Sycamore Circle. City Engineer Gary D. Johnson told the council that the repairs were needed quickly to avoid the possibility of sewage spilling onto streets.

Engineered Systems and Construction Inc. of Corona has been hired to replace two main pipes; work is scheduled to begin this week. Johnson said that it should take only a couple of days to fix the pipes and that service to residents won’t be interrupted.

When the 16 homes in the tract were built in the early 1970s, the city created an assessment district to pay for sewer services. The developer had paid for a pump station to serve the sewer lines. A portion of the annual assessment set aside for emergency repairs will pay for the pipe work.
