5 Men Rob Jeweler at Gunpoint at Home

Five men stole hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from an Encino jewelry manufacturer at gunpoint at his home, Los Angeles police reported Tuesday.

No injuries were reported during the robbery, which took place about 10:30 p.m. Monday in the 4100 block of Alonzo Avenue, said Officer Mike Partain, a department spokesman.

The 50-year-old jewelry manufacturer, who was returning from a trade show in Atlanta, had been picked up by his 23-year-old son from Los Angeles International Airport and driven to his home on Alonzo Avenue, Partain said.

The father and son were getting out of the car when five men approached, some of them masked. At least one of the men had a handgun, Partain said.

The men took several canvas bags filled with jewelry that the father had in his possession, Partain said. The exact value of the stolen goods was not yet known, but “it’s in the high six-figure range,” Partain said.

“They were specific in what they were after,” he said. “They were professional in their demeanor.”

As one of the five men held the father and son at gunpoint, the others loaded up a gray Acura with the canvas bags and the five fled, Partain said.

Police have found no link to the possible follow-home robbery of Christopher Rawlings in nearby Woodland Hills. “There doesn’t appear to be [a connection] at this point,” Partain said. “However, I’m sure that’s an avenue that [investigators] will pursue.”
