The U.S. economy is expected to have added jobs at a rapid pace in February, driving total employment growth since November to more than 1 million, analysts said. The number of nonfarm jobs, to be reported today by the Labor Department, is expected to have risen by 240,000 in February. That would follow gains of 245,000 jobs in January, 298,000 in December and 270,000 in November. The jobs report probably will also show that the unemployment rate held steady at 4.3%, tying an almost 30-year low, analysts said.

AFL-CIO Chief at LAX: AFL-CIO President John Sweeney will meet with airport security and food concession workers today, giving a boost to a multi-union effort to organize employees and raise wages at LAX.

With only 15,000 of its 55,000 employees belonging to unions, Los Angeles International Airport has become a center for organizing efforts here. As such, it is a showcase for Sweeney, who today will also lead a pro-union rally across from the United Airlines baggage claim area. Later he is scheduled to meet privately with about 100 African American clergy members.
