Three hours of tense waiting ended Saturday night when police stormed a Highland Park home to find the bodies of a man and a woman, the victims of an apparent murder-suicide, police said.

The identities of the couple, both of whom were in their 50s, were not released, pending notification of relatives.

Police and SWAT officers converged on the neighborhood about 5:15 p.m. after a neighbor reported hearing a woman’s scream followed by gunshots.

Police evacuated several blocks around the home near Avenue 50 and Granada Street. A SWAT team entered the home about three hours later and discovered the bodies.

The man had apparently shot himself after killing his wife, said Los Angeles Police Cmdr. David Kalish.

“This appears to be the result of some domestic problems,” he said.
