The city’s Planning Commission tonight will consider a proposal to install a cellular phone antenna mounted on a 60-foot steel pole inside a fake palm tree. Air Touch Cellular wants to build the antenna on the southeast corner of Los Coyotes Drive and Beach Boulevard so that cell phone customers can receive coverage in that area. The plan is to disguise the antenna and also plant seven new palm trees nearby to make the fake one look more natural, the city’s planning manager, Jay Saltzberg said. The pole would stand 290 feet away from the nearest residential area. The 7 p.m. meeting will be in City Council chambers, at 6650 Beach Blvd.
