The public can comment March 29 on a proposal to build a 50-acre corporate center complete with office buildings, a 200-room hotel, restaurants, shops and a health club in the South Coast Metro Center. The project is designed as a self-contained campus catering to corporate employees by centralizing food, shopping and health club services not far from a hotel and office buildings. The proposed site, bordered by Avenue of the Arts, Anton Boulevard, the San Diego Freeway and the Sakioka farmland, would increase the total square footage of the bustling South Coast Metro Center from 750,000 square feet to more than 1.4 million square feet. Developers plan to build four four-story office buildings, two restaurants, a small shopping area, a 200-room hotel, a two- to three-story health club and three multi-level parking garages. According to an environmental review of the project, traffic generated by the plan is expected to be within allowable city limits. Others are concerned about noise and air pollution. But a study shows the project will have no adverse effects on the environment. The document is available for review through March 24 in the planning division at City Hall. The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall, 77 Fair Drive. Information: (714) 754-5245.
