Barbara Callard, who has been principal of Laguna Beach High School for 11 years, will be stepping down at the end of the school year, officials said Wednesday. Callard has been job-hunting outside the district, but if she doesn’t leave Laguna Beach Unified before September she will be reassigned to make room for “new leadership” at the high school campus, Supt. Theresa Daem said. While praising Callard’s tenure at the district, Daem said the two have been discussing the change for some time. Making the announcement now gives school officials six months to find a replacement for Callard, who also served as interim superintendent in the 2,500-student district.
