Think you’ve been discriminated against when trying to rent or buy a home? For 40 years, the Fair Housing Council of the San Fernando Valley has been investigating housing discrimination complaints and educating the public about fair housing.

The private, nonprofit organization--one of the oldest fair housing councils in the nation--also provides federal and state fair housing law information to real estate agents, management companies, lenders and tenants. In addition, the organization gives referrals for landlord and tenant disputes not involving discrimination.

Among the resources offered at council headquarters are free sample letters on housing issues and a $2 booklet titled “California Tenant” that outlines state civil codes on landlord and tenant laws.
