Council Chief Backs Off-Leash Dog Park

Citing demand by dog owners, City Council President John Ferraro proposed Friday that 90 acres of Runyon Canyon Park be designated as an off-leash exercise area for dogs.

In a motion to be considered by the City Council next week, the exercise area would be fenced off from the rest of the 134-acre park.

“The neighbor residents as well as patrons of Runyon Canyon Park have long sought to establish an off-leash dog exercise area within the park,” Ferraro said.

But, in a concession to residents who do not want close interaction with animals, Ferraro is also proposing a 21,000-square-foot area where dogs and cats will not be allowed, even on a leash.
