No Pennies

Share

* In a March 7 letter, Bill Souder advocates the elimination of the penny in our system of money. I can only agree and point out that even in our income tax system we have rounded off calculations to the nearest dollar.

Further, for several years it has worked well in Australia and New Zealand. Prices are still advertised and labeled in cents, but when it comes down to final payment it is rounded off so no pennies are needed. For an example, in a supermarket you may have a series of $2.98 or $3.42 articles but when the final bill is calculated, if it is $102.92, you pay $102.90 and if it is $102.93, you pay $102.95. I have advocated this for several years and it certainly could and should happen here.
