Man Sought in Rape Near UCLA Campus

Share

Police are looking for a man who kidnapped and raped a woman near UCLA early Thursday.

The victim was returning to her car, parked near an alley behind Gayley Avenue about 1:30 a.m., said Officer Charlotte Broughton.

The attacker entered through the unlocked passenger side, hit her repeatedly and got behind the wheel, Broughton said. He drove to an undisclosed location, where he sexually assaulted her in the car.

He continued driving, but the woman escaped and ran into a mini-mart near Gayley and Le Conte avenues, just south of the UCLA campus, Broughton said. When the suspect chased the woman into the store, a security surveillance camera captured it on videotape.

The woman’s brown Cadillac has not been found, police said.
