* Home Depot Inc. named Anders Moberg, president of Sweden’s Ikea Group, to be its group president for international operations, as the nation’s largest seller of paint, light fixtures and other home-improvement supplies plans further overseas expansion. Moberg, 49, is credited with expanding Ikea’s business throughout Europe and in the Asia-Pacific region during his 13 years with the home furnishings retailer.

* Dimon Inc., the world’s No. 2 dealer of leaf tobacco, said it will close a plant in North Carolina and cut 1,200 jobs amid a decline in orders from cigarette makers. The cuts include 200 full-time positions, or a quarter of its U.S. work force, and 1,000 seasonal jobs.

* Spanair, Spain’s third-biggest airline, said it ordered Airbus planes worth as much as $2.2 billion as it prepares to expand service in Europe. Spanair said it placed a firm order for 21 planes, took 21 subject to reconfirmation and has an option on 12. The airline has 22 MD-80 aircraft, built by McDonnell Douglas Corp., now part of Boeing Co., and two Boeing 767s in its fleet.
