BUENA PARK
The city is considering changes to its daytime curfew ordinance after a Los Angeles Superior Court judge struck down a similar ordinance in Monrovia. The amendment to Buena Park’s ordinance--which allows police to cite truant teenagers--would state that minors may be out of school if they are receiving instruction at home, at a private school or from a qualified tutor, or if they are exempt from compulsory or continuing education.
A judge ruled several weeks ago that Monrovia’s ordinance contradicted state laws. That city then complied with state laws by including the type of amendment that the Buena Park council will vote on at today’s 5 p.m. meeting, at 6650 Beach Blvd.
