Storm System Heads Toward the Area

Storms that are expected to roll in today could bring as much as 3 inches of rain, according to meteorologists.

A storm system from the Pacific will bring cooler temperatures and possibly heavy thunderstorms, said Scott Breit, a meteorologist for Weather Data Inc., which provides weather forecasts for The Times.

More rain is welcome, Breit said. Rainfall totals from the winter are less than 40% of normal.

“You guys have really had a very tame winter,” Breit said. “If there is any rain of any kind, it’s going to be kind of a shock to the system.”

There is a chance, however, that the storm could turn south toward San Diego, Breit said. In that case, the county could see as little as a tenth of an inch of rain.

The storm is expected to last through Friday. High temperatures will be in the mid- to upper 50s for highs, while the lows this morning will be in the upper 40s.
