In other Orange Empire Conference games:

Golden West 8, Saddleback 5--Reuben Gulledge hit a first-inning grand slam to give Golden West a 5-0 lead. It was the 10th homer for Gulledge, who had five RBIs for host Golden West (15-11, 5-7). Rustler starter Tim Crosby (3-1) retired the first 11 he faced and gave up one earned run in eight innings.

Saddleback (20-7, 7-5) made it 8-5 in the eighth when Jason Marion hit a grand slam.

Orange Coast 8, Santa Ana 4--Brandon Thompson’s two-run home run in the sixth inning for OCC broke a 3-3 tie. It was his Orange County-leading 11th homer for OCC (13-13, 4-6).

Santa Ana (16-11, 6-6) loaded the bases with none out in the ninth but reliever John Coleman got a game-ending double play for OCC.

In the Ventura softball tournament:

Golden West 7, Bakersfield 3--Jenine Salamun gave up only four hits, picking up her first of two pool-play victories for Golden West (14-11-2).

She also pitched a two-hitter in a 3-0 victory over Hartnell.
