Audio Book to Buy Bertelsmann Unit

Audio Book Club Inc. said it will acquire Audiobooks Direct, a unit of Bertelsmann’s Doubleday Direct, to become the world’s No. 1 provider of books on tape and compact disc. Terms were not disclosed. Audio Book Club also will gain access to the 14 million members of Doubleday Direct, the largest consumer book club in North America.
