NEWPORT BEACH
The City Council last week unanimously approved a special event permit for an April 16 welcoming celebration for the tall ship H.M. Bark Endeavour, part of the Endeavour North American Voyage. The Newport Harbor ceremony will include the firing of cannons and guns. The Endeavour is a replica of the 18th century ship that Capt. James Cook sailed around the world. It will be docked next to the Newport Beach Nautical Museum for 10 days. The ceremony will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the noise could affect residents in Peninsula Point, Lido Isle, Balboa Island, Harbor Island and Bay Shores.
