Tijuana Police Investigating Shooting Death of Plant Manager
The manager of a border assembly plant was shot to death by unidentified assailants in Tijuana, police reported Tuesday.
Police spokesman Lorenzo Garibay said it was unclear whether the shooting of executive Shiro Sasayama, 50, was the result of a botched robbery or kidnapping attempt.
Sasayama was found dead in his car in an industrial section of Tijuana after two assailants reportedly shot him in the head with a .25-caliber pistol. Sasayama worked as the manager of the Magnament de Mexico factory there, the government news agency Notimex reported.
Garibay said police were searching for the two suspects in the industrial area where the shooting occurred.
Tijuana, which is heavily dependent on Japanese and U.S. industrial plants located there, was shaken by the 1996 kidnapping of executive Mamoru Konno, 56, who was held for nine days and released after paying a ransom estimated at $2 million.
