Three Pairs by Newbury Park’s Johnson Enough to Beat Agoura

Tyler Johnson pitched a two-hitter, had two hits and drove in two runs to lead Newbury Park High to a 7-5 victory over Agoura in a Marmonte League baseball game on Wednesday.

Johnson (4-3), a senior left-hander, struck out 10 and walked four.

Nick Hillman hit a three-run home run for Agoura (7-13-1, 1-9 in league play) in the fourth inning and Chris Denove contributed a seventh-inning double when the Chargers scored two unearned runs.

Agoura’s Michael Falco was held hitless for the first time this season by Johnson, Falco’s teammate last summer on the Conejo Valley Big League World Series championship team.

Ryan Shipton had a two-run triple for Panthers (12-10, 5-4).

Thousand Oaks 11, Simi Valley 4--Doug Hutton doubled twice, hit a two-run home run and finished with three hits and five runs batted in during a Marmonte League victory for the host Lancers (16-5, 8-2), who took a half-game lead in the league standings.

Westlake 15, Moorpark 7--Tyler Adamcyzk and Jesse Kozlowski each hit two home runs and visiting Westlake hit five during a Marmonte League game.

Brandon Del Vecchio (3-2) threw five shutout innings with nine strikeouts for Westlake (16-4-1, 7-3).

Highland 16, Antelope Valley 5--Drew Kennedy drove in five runs, Daniel Champieux hit two home runs and the Bulldogs (16-6, 10-2) won a Golden League game at Highland.

Kennedy, Champieux and John Santor each had three hits for Highland, which pounded six home runs and 16 hits.

Palmdale 24, Littlerock 4--Chris Testa hit two doubles and a triple for visiting Palmdale in a Golden League game called after six innings because of the 10-run rule.

Palmdale (16-6, 10-2) hit six doubles.

Delwyn Young hit his 13th home run of the season for Littlerock (6-12, 3-9).

Quartz Hill 5, Lancaster 4--Matt Lopez hit a sixth inning single to drive in the winning run during a Golden League game at Lancaster.

Travis Allen hit an RBI double in the fourth inning for Quartz Hill (7-14, 5-7).

Lancaster (13-7, 8-4) had a season-high six stolen bases.

Channel Islands 4, Hueneme 2--Alex Salazar had three hits, including a one-run single in the sixth inning for the go-ahead run in a Pacific View league game at Hueneme. Salazar also had a double for Channel Islands (3-6 in league.

Oak Park 8, Fillmore 5--Erik Smentek had three hits and drove in two runs and Blake Nelson had two hits for the visiting Eagles (11-5-1, 8-1), who clinched at least a share of first place in the Tri-Valley League.

Derek Jacobi (3-3) went the distance for Oak Park, striking out two and walking three. John Vega had two hits for Fillmore.

Faith Baptist 10, L.A. Lutheran 4--Fernando Velasquez (6-2) had three hits and struck out 12 in a four-hitter for visiting Faith Baptist in a Heritage League game.

Verdugo Hills 10, Hollywood 4--Ian Carson hit a two-run double and had nine strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings for visiting Verdugo Hills in a Northern Conference game.

Bryce Hester hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning for Verdugo Hills (5-12, 5-8).

Thacher 5, Cornerstone Christian 4--Aaron Kilpatrick doubled twice and had two RBIs for Cornerstone Christian, but the Eagles (9-2, 6-2) dropped a Condor League game at Freedom Park in Camarillo.

Josh Miller (7-1) took the loss, although he had two hits and two RBIs.
