Sixteen students from the Miller and Los Coyotes elementary schools recently won gemstones to give their mothers in the “Why Mom Deserves a Diamond” essay contest. The contest, sponsored by the Gallery of Diamonds in Costa Mesa, had 14,000 entries. Students were allowed to choose either an African garnet or amethyst to give for Mother’s Day.
