Conference to Focus on K-12 Standards

Education leaders from across the nation will discuss K-12 academic standards for language arts, mathematics and science during a free two-day conference at Cal State Northridge on May 21 and 22.

The public is encouraged to attend and talk with experts about the challenges California educators could face in implementing a standards-based accountability system for public schools.

Los Angeles administrators, teachers and school board members will speak in the University Student Union, 18111 Nordhoff St. Other scheduled speakers include Bill Honig, former state superintendent of schools; R. James Milgram, professor of mathematics at Stanford University; Sandra Stotsky, research associate at the Harvard Graduate School of Education; and Chester Finn, president of the Fordham Foundation and former U.S. assistant secretary of education.

The conference will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
