Gomez Helps Orange Coast Place Fourth

Zoila Gomez won the 5,000 and 10,000 meters to help Orange Coast finish fourth in the women’s competition at the Southern California track and field championships Saturday at Mt. San Antonio college.

Gomez won the 5,000 in 18 minutes 18.95 seconds and the 10,000 in 38:04.30 to help the Pirates finish with 85 points. Mt. SAC won with 108 points. Orange Coast’s Nicole Hansen won the pole vault (10 feet 6 inches).

Also in the women’s meet, Golden West’s Tofi Togagae won the shot put (45-3) and finished third in the discus (135-1) and javelin (108-1). Santa Ana’s Etta Jackson won the javelin (117-1).

Mt. SAC also won the men’s competition with 151 points. Golden West was the highest county finisher in sixth place with 40 points, led by Aaron Lewis, who won the javelin (199-10).

Other county winners included Santa Ana’s Robert Fuentes in the high jump (6-8), Santa Ana’s Alex Reyes in the 10,000 (32:04.05), Orange Coast’s Travis Vandrovec in the pole vault (15-9), and Orange Coast’s Ray Bardone in the decathlon (6,234 points).
