Re “On the Road Again: The Plight of the ‘90s Mother,” May 6:

There is another option! Life doesn’t have to be about running away from the home. We are schoolteachers and the parents of four children, ages 4 to 16. Each child is involved in one outside activity a week. They spend most of their time in our home. They want to be home. We hate being on the road frantically adhering to some self-imposed schedule. Our family eats dinner together every night. We talk and spend time together instead of sitting in bleachers away from our children. Homework is done and children are in bed at 8 p.m., instead of on the road.

Children are the most important thing in our lives--but their schedules do not dictate to us. Children need plenty of unstructured time to play. Do yourselves and your children a big favor--stop this madness.

While the article is true, I fail to see a major point. Yes, mothers are driving their kids numerous places these days and are way overburdened. I think the more poignant question that should have been explored is: This is the ‘90s--where are the dads?
