MTBE Additive
* The fact that the gas companies are dumping as much MTBE in our gas as possible (May 7) is more proof of the original intent of the use of MTBE in the first place. The gas companies produce MTBE as a byproduct in gasoline production and have to pay a stiff price for its treatment and removal. By bribing public officials with generous campaign contributions, they got the government to let them actually sell it to us!
They now have four years left (thanks to our fearless governor) to dump as much of this poison in our environment as they possibly can. Hey idiots at Arco, Chevron and Tosco, you live here too! Take MTBE out of our gas and stop worrying about your bottom line.
