The City Council has voted to oppose a state Assembly bill that would require employers to pay overtime for work beyond eight hours a day. The bill, officials said, would cost the city significant money and would remove the flexibility for employees to work additional hours per day in order to get extra days off. The council also agreed to ask the Assembly to exclude local governments from the bill.
